Once upon a time I started my very first blog. Although that one is retired, it was a wonderful learning experience and gave me the confidence to start the two sites that I manage today. Rather than filing all the old posts away, I’ve decided to bring a few back from the archives, including one of the most popular party idea pages – Princess Tea Party. Enjoy!

Princess Tea Party Ideas

It’s a little girl’s dream come true! This princess tea party is magical, fun, and oh so sweet. From the décor to the cake, we’re sharing all the details of this party fit for royalty.

If you have been following our blog for a while, you know that we love a good party, especially children’s birthday parties. Combining her daughter’s two favorite things, princesses and tea parties, my dear friend pulled out all the stops on this beautiful princess tea party!

If you are planning your own princess tea party, we’ll go through all the elements that made her party stand out. We’ll also include a few more options that you can use for your upcoming event including invitations, princess décor and activities, and tea party food.

Princess Tea Party Invitations

When planning a princess tea party, one of the first things to consider is the invitation. While online invitations have become a fast-growing trend, we still enjoy getting a physical invitation in the mail.

You have two options when purchasing invitations. The first one is to purchase a personalized PDF copy that you will need to have printed locally. The second one is a fill-in-the-blank invitation. There are typically more options for customizations with a personalized PDF invitation, but you will need a good home printer or a local printer nearby to receive the physical copies.

Princess Dress Up Station

For the featured party, the invitation requested that the invitees come dressed as their favorite princess. If any of the little princesses had forgotten their gowns or crowns, no worries here. To the right of the foyer was a dress-up station filled with a variety of Disney princess dresses and tiaras. Not only does this ensure that no one feels left out, but also doubles as décor.

Rather than stating for the girls to be dressed up upon arrival, another fun option would be to have “dressing up” as a party activity. This also gives the girls something to do while waiting for the tea party to begin.

When creating a dress up area, a dress up rack, wardrobe, or armoire is handy to hang up the dresses. A basket or table nearby works well to display any accessories. If you have a child who enjoys dressing up, a dress up rack can serve double duty as décor during the party and afterwards as a beautiful addition to a bedroom or playroom. A trunk would work as well, if you already have one on hand.

Princess Tea Party Décor

The tea party table is definitely the center of attraction at a princess tea party. For our featured party, a long table was set for 10 special guests with a white tablecloth, blue table runner, white lace paper doilies, pink and purple scalloped plates, a monogrammed napkin, and monogrammed teacup.

Ten small white Chiavari chairs were placed at each place setting with a blue sash tied to the back. The centerpiece included two purple candelabras on each side with pink roses in the center.

Each place setting also included a monogrammed tea-cup with a monogrammed napkin and let’s not forget the sparkly wand. Two monogrammed tea pots were displayed on each side of the table with sugar cubes available for the taking. It certainly was a table fit for a princess.

To emulate the place setting in the picture, a lace paper doily is an easy and inexpensive first layer.

We really love these princess party cutlery bags from Stesha Party! They are ideal for the place settings or would make adorable treat bags!

Of course the star of the place settings is the actual tea set. We are just smitten with this vintage floral tea set from the Talking Tables Store. The mismatched set includes everything you need including paper plates, tea cups and saucers, and napkins.

The Party Darling on Etsy also carries a lovely assortment of vintage floral paper goods that are ideal for a tea party.

If you prefer a ceramic set, this children’s ceramic tea set includes 4 tea cups, 4 saucers, a teapot, creamer container, and sugar bowl. It comes in 4 color options including floral, pink with polka dots, turquoise with polka dots, or pastel (shown below).

The candelabras used at the party were painted purple to match the theme. The exact ones aren’t available anymore, but you could do a similar project with a 3-arm candelabra or 5-arm candelabra. The gold 3-arm candelabra definitely gives off “Be Our Guest” vibes!

The mantle was colorfully decorated with a princess dress name banner, purple wired carriage, and framed outlines of Disney princesses. You can find a similar customizable princess dress name banner here!

Princess Tea Party Food

Depending on the age of the tea party guests, it is probably wise to have something other than tea (if you even have tea at all) to drink. Pink lemonade or punch is a good alternative for younger guests.

A simple tea party menu may include tea sandwiches, crackers and dips, fresh fruit, and scones or cookies. Another easy option would be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut out in fun shapes like princess crowns or butterflies.

These specialty tea party sugar cookies by Just 4 You Treats would be adorable as a special treat or party favor to go!

Along with the princess tea-table, perhaps one of the most stunning areas of this party was the cake and candy buffet. Once you make the initial purchase of containers for a candy buffet, it is extremely easy to incorporate it into any party that you are throwing. The different sized candy jars were filled with pastel-colored candies and tied with bows.

The pastel table skirting was lovingly made by my friend’s aunt (who is an absolutely amazing seamstress). The princess birthday cake was made to match the skirting and topped with a princess crown. Another princess dress banner was hung above the table with HAPPY BIRTHDAY spelled out (here’s the link for the banner). To tie it all together, a white linen backdrop was hung with pink sheer fabric gracefully draped with a blue bow to top it all off.

There is no doubt that it takes a lot of time, work, and resources to pull off a successful party – big or small, but these little girls sure had a grand time!
